What's the PLDD?
Percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) is a procedure in which herniated intervertebral discs are treated by reduction of intradiscal pressure through laser energy. This is introduced by a needle inserted into the nucleus pulposus under local anesthesia and fluoroscopic monitoring. The small volume of nucleus vaporized results in a sharp fall of intradiscal pressure, with consequent migration of the herniation away from the nerve root. It is firstly developed by Dr. Daniel S.J. Choy in 1986. PLDD has proven to be safe and effective. It is minimally invasive, is performed in an outpatient setting, requires no general anesthesia, results in no scarring or spinal instability, reduces rehabilitation time, is repeatable, and does not preclude open surgery should that become necessary. It is an ideal choice for patients with poor results in non-surgical treatment.
An innovative approach - using 980nm 1470nm - is to treat the bulge itself rather than to vaporize the Nucleus Pulposus. The focused 980nm 1470nm wavelength results in a confined effect and an energy efficient procedure.
WHO SHOULD CONSIDER PLDD?
The PLDD procedure is specifically designed and developed for the cervical and lumbar indications, including:
Severe leg, arm, neck or lower back pain.
Pain that has not responded to six weeks of conservative treatments- rest, meds or physical therapy.
Herniated lumbar discs confirmed by x-ray studies that may include one or more of the following: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), CAT Scanning, Myelography, Discography.
Product Advantages
Advantages of PLDD
1.Convenience: Short surgery time (15-30 minutes). Multiple disc lesions can be treated simultaneously. 2.Minimally Invasive and Painless: Local anesthesia only 1-millimeter incision, no scars. Painless procedure.
3.Safe and Reliable: Fast recovery, discharge in 3 days. No impact on spinal stability or bone tissue.
4.Cost-Effective: Rapid recovery. Lower cost, less than half of traditional surgery.
